Traidcraft
The aim of the Traidcraft stall has been to promote fair trade issues. The more people that buy fair trade goods, either from us or from big supermarkets, the more effective we can be in attacking the causes of poverty in developing countries.
|
Roger Baker tells us that it is no longer viable to continue with our stall. He says:" A big thank you to everyone who has supported the stall and our campaigns at Broadway. We can continue to play our part by looking out for the fairtrade logo and buying fairtrade whenever we can."

Allestree Churches Together (ACT)
|
Broadway, in common with the other churches in the Greater Allestree Area, is a member of Allestree Churches Together. Carl tells us a little about ACT activities. |
We have a number of joint events though the year. At the begining of December we meet at the Holy Family Church for a quiet evening with prayer and reflection, followed by refreshments. In January we have the octave of prayer for Christian Unity. This commences with a unity lunch at Broadway on the Saturday. On the following Friday we meet at St. Paul's Quarndon for a joint communion service. The Saturdays of Lent see us meet ing for frugal lunches at each church in turn. The money raised is used to support the church in Nagpur, India.

Since 1997 we have been fetching eggs each week from Highfields Farm at Etwall so that you can buy fresh free-range eggs when you turn up for church on Sundays.
Highfields Farm, also known to us as 'Happy Hens', engages in valuable work with young people experiencing a range of problems. |

Padley Centre
The Padley Centre is always close to our hearts. There is a collection box in the church porch. Just one item, regularly, from your weekly shop would make a huge difference to those in real need. Roger Mather, our link person, makes a special appeal to Broadway: "The Padley Development Centre based at Rutland Street, is an accredited Training Unit for people who have missed out on traditional education and training. Among the activities offered are pottery, expressive arts, woodwork, general arts and crafts and therapeutic work. They have a great need for art materials such as coloured pens, pencils, crayons, painting brushes, paper, glue, glitter, wool, yarns and sequins. Please help by donating any of these items." |
